Carpetbag

Carpetbagger was the name given to northerners who came south after the Civil War. Many northerners came with good intentions of helping freedmen or establishing legitimate businesses. Others saw the former slave states as a land and opportunity ripe for economic exploitation. Courtesy of the Kentucky Historical Society.
