Henry Clay

Although Boyd was active in the Compromise of 1850, Clay received the majority of the credit. Clay served as a senator, Speaker of the House, Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams, and ran for president three times and lost each time, most notably to Andrew Jackson. Clay died in 1852 and is buried in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky. Courtesy of the Library of Congress.
