Traveling south on Highway 25 through Berea to the Madison-Rockcastle County line is "Boone Gap" where Boone Trace incorporated a low passage through the mountain. It is located just east of the county line sign where the old US 25 curved around the mountain with a hidden Boone Gap Overlook built there in the 1930s.
