John Hunt Morgan

John Hunt Morgan (1825-1864) moved to Lexington, Kentucky, with his family in 1831, and he attended Transylvania College there. He joined the Confederacy after Kentucky declared allegiance to the Union. He became a symbol of the Confederate cause in the state. Morgan's Men were organized as the 2nd Kentucky Cavalry in 1862. During the war Morgan led a series of raids that were an attempt to inspire state support for the Confederacy and destroy Union supply and communication lines. Courtesy of Hopewell Museum.
