This is purportedly the regimental flag used by 3rd Kentucky Mounted Riflemen during the War of 1812. This swallowtail flag has a field of thirteen stripes, alternating red (7) and white (6). The canton is 14 1/2" high by 12 3/4" wide (at the head edge) and consists of a painted "1" within a circle of nine stars. There are four additional stars in the canton, one in each corner. There is a 2" wide hoist edge.
This flag was restored in 1915 by sandwiching the flag fragments between layers of netting and sewing the netting together to hold the fragments in place.
