Postcard of Olympian Springs Hotel. This famous resort, known by 1791 as Mud Lick Springs, was favored for a century by prominent visitors such as Henry Clay. The first stagecoach route in Kentucky began here to Lexington in 1803. The 28th US Infantry camped here during the War of 1812. A Civil War cavalry battle was fought here on Oct. 19, 1864.
