Taken around 1915, this photo provides a view of a dam along the Green River in McLean County. During the nineteenth century, the Green River, cutting through the county, served as an important transportation route for steamboats into Western Kentucky. In the late 1830s, a series of locks and dams were built along the river to improve river travel in the area. Courtesy of the Kentucky Historical Society.
