Harriet Beecher Stowe

Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) was probably inspired by Henson for her novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin. In 1833, Harriet Beecher was visiting Washington, Kentucky and witnessed a slave auction there. This and other experiences led her novel, which has a number of references to Washington. Courtesy of Library of Congress.
