John G. Fee wrote this letter to President Abraham Lincoln from Middletown, Ohio, in 1861 while he was exiled from Kentucky. In the told Lincoln that the time was at hand to "free the slaves and rid the country of this great evil" and mentioned that he too was a Kentuckian, albeit in exile.
